SPATIAL SOLUTION
Monitoring progress was just one of the tasks for the documenting team
During the life of the project, the documenting team solved several construction challenges and saved costs, as well as monitoring progress on site.
The team interpreted the architect's designs and reviewed relevant building codes and standards, including environmental, fire and disability codes, says Vic Baines of Webber & Associates.
"We work together to ensure that all the services are co-ordinated, so that everything fits together like Meccano on site which often means sorting out problems before construction," says Baines. "On this project, one of the main issues was the plant room on the roof. We worked with the consultants on a design that would resolve a complicated network of services and achieve fire separation requirements."
Many changes were made during the two and a half years the company was involved in the project. Every week, the team carried out a site inspection, then updated the documents and circulated them to consultants and contractors.
"We kept the concept architects informed about major changes, although we were the hands-on team that saw the design through to completion," he says.
Webber & Associates uses both AutoCAD and ArchiCAD systems to document projects. The company is now working on Vision Tower in Brisbane.
