Slice of paradise coastal landscape
Team behind picturesque Omaha landscape project
Whether you have an extra-large plot, a small, awkwardly shaped site, or simply a tired garden that has been never been given the attention it deserves, there is always a landscape solution.
The project featured on these pages falls into the second category. Landscape architect Robin Shafer of Shafer Design says working out a plan that would accommodate a lap pool, spa pool and tranquil outdoor living area was a particular design challenge.
"In such cases, it is not just a question of fitting everything in it's also about creating a landscape that flows seamlessly and doesn't look cluttered or obstructed," Shafer says. "For this project, for example, it was important to maximise the available space, so the pool is elevated, effectively providing its own fencing. This saves a considerable amount of space."
Planting was another critical factor in the design. To soften the hard landscaping, Shafer created planter boxes on different levels alongside the pools. These feature colourful, low-maintenance, drought-resistant plants.
The landscape architect also tamed the site alongside the boundaries, ensuring there are plenty of outdoor living options.
