Colourful panels are all painted in low-emmission paints the work was undertaken by Higgins Coatings
IN ONE SENSE, the interior walls of Brisbane Tower are vibrant and multicoloured however, in another sense they are all decidedly green.
Higgins Coatings undertook all the painting of internal areas to the base building and fit-out of both the Brisbane City Council and Suncorp Metway tenancies.
"This was an environmentally responsible green-star project and both building owners and tenants specified low-emission paint finishes," says Queensland manager Chris Dennis. "Higgins Coatings takes a strong stance on environmental responsibility and this building's green focus was a major bonus from our perspective."
While the architects had specified environmentally friendly wall coverings, Higgins Coatings chose the actually paint types supplying swatches and samples to Baulderstone Hornibrook. The company's own emphasis on green building issues meant they were already familiar with the suitable paint options available.
"The paints we used, all from Dulux, offer low emissions in that they don't give off volatile organic compounds (VOCs) while drying," says Dennis. "The Green paints are also safe to break down at the end of their life, not liberating any toxins into the environment when being burned or otherwise disposed of."
Vibrant tones were used throughout the tower, with the colours of feature wall tones changing every four levels. VOC Wash-and-Wear low-sheen from Dulux was used for the colourful panel office walls. Berger Door and Trim was used in other areas.
"Brisbane Square was a large-scale project and all went smoothly this was partly due to our close working relationship with Baulderstone," he says.
