Continuity of service and good communication ensure success
Whilst Reinforcing steel may be one of the less glamorous aspects of a construction project, it is one of the more vital. Until completed, progress on any project is strictly limited.
Reoco Reinforcing won the contract to supply and place all the reinforcing steel at Sylvia Park, currently the largest construction site in the country.
Director of Reoco Mike Fox says the size and scale of the project posed the main challenge.
"We had to supply and place all the reinforcing steel required for the south precinct in the first three months of the project. To meet an initially demanding volume and tight time frame, we organised a night shift with staff working round the clock. We also made multiple deliveries a day from our nearby factory, which allowed us to keep up with demand," he says. "We were able to achieve the deadlines because we are a service-oriented company and we understand the need to maintain continuity."
Fox believes that the success of the project underlines that Reoco, a privately owned company, has the capacity to undertake and perform on substantial contracts. Reoco has been involved with a number of other projects for Multiplex, including The Docks apartments in Auckland City. It has also supplied and placed the reinforcing steel for other large shopping malls, such as Queensgate in Lower Hutt and Chartwell in Hamilton.
