Landscaping creates positive first impression
THE FIRST impression of Sylvia Park for shoppers and passersby is provided by the last, but by no means least important, contract landscaping.
Mace Contractors won the contract for the landscaping earthworks, planting, irrigation and mulching, working to a design by Isthmus Group and supervised throughout by Mace Contractors' senior foreman, James Butler.
To complete the work, at the peak of the project Mace Contractors had 50 staff working on the site.
Owner Neville Mace says challenges included a compressed time frame due to wet weather, the need for cranes and special lifting trucks for the large-grade trees, and the logistics of working alongside other subcontractors, all endeavouring to finish their own parts of the contracts. In addition, Mace Contractors also co-ordinated up to 10 suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring they delivered all products on time.
The large trees planted throughout Sylvia Park were contract-grown by Blackbridge Nurseries, who sourced stock from around the North Island. Shrubs and groundcovers were specially grown for the project at Mace Contractors' Drury nursery.
