Water features add to an attractive extra dimension to Sylvia Park
Water features add an interesting element of tranquillity to the busy precincts at Sylvia Park.
Altogether, six ponds in a variety of sizes and all displaying different features were included in the brief to Mayfair Pools. The company worked closely with the architects, client and hydraulic engineers to design the water features, and was also involved in the waterproofing and plant installation of the ponds.
Richard Rowley of Mayfair Pools says because of the complexity of the designs, a demonstration pond was built at the company's factory and the proposed features were tested in advance to ensure all design problems were resolved before installation.
Features such as bubbling lines and a volcano of water that leaps to 1.5m above the pond are controlled by a centralised computer system, while underground balance tanks ensure the wet edges keep flowing.
"Many of the features were experimental, and we had to keep refining them to eliminate possible problems such as splashing onto passersby and footpaths," he says.
Mayfair Pools has been building swimming pools for 35 years. Its expertise can also be applied to the design and installation of specialised water features and ponds.
