Sports arenas today need to be designed to suit far more than crowds of cheering local fans. They will probably be hosting top sporting teams who regularly play in some of the best stadia around the world, and such games are likely to be broadcast internationally. As a consequence, these grounds have very specific lighting requirements.
During the recent upgrade of the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sylvania Lighting Australasia worked very closely with lighting consultant Webb Australia Group to come up with a customised lighting solution that met the varied needs of the players, spectators and television broadcasters.
Together, the companies developed a precision lighting design that met international standards for high-definition television suitable for cricket and the Australian Football League, while remaining within the strict size limitations of the new headframes.
Sylvania Lighting provided 648 Siteco 2000W R2 Maxi luminaires, along with 24 luminaires with purpose-built glare shields to meet glare restriction requirements, providing an innovative and quality solution for the stadium owners.
For the new $70 million Victor Trumper spectator stand, Sylvania Lighting worked with lighting consultant Barnwell Cambridge Electrical Engineers and Contractors, and supplied 70 NightStar Compact luminaires, which provide safe entry/exit stair and landing lighting.
An Australian-owned company, Sylvania Lighting, with a staff of 250, operates nationwide.
