Future-proofing a home to accommodate changing technology is commonplace, but the David Reid Homes show home takes this one step further, with a future-proofed roof.

Calder Stewart Roofing in Invercargill supplied Solar Rib® metal roofing, which can function as a self-contained, power-generating roofing profile that does away with the need for traditional solar panels.

Sales and marketing manager Mike Tou says Solar Rib is designed to accommodate a special light and flexible laminate with embedded photovoltaic cells. This laminate can be installed onto the roofing metal without the need for additional support, other than standard roof purlins. The laminate can be added to the roof at any stage.

"In the meantime, the show home has the advantage of a smart, cost-effective roofing product that will go the distance," says Tou. "For this project, we installed Colorcote ZR8 Ironsand G10."
