Our lives may be more complex these days, but our homes are generally less cluttered. And it's probably ironic that the trend towards simple, pared-back, functional design and honest materials has its roots in a 300-year-old tradition.

The simplicity of Shaker-style furniture, first developed in America in the 18th Century, has inspired chic kitchen designs in Europe and can now be seen at Harvey Norman Wairau Park.

Most noticeable for its panelled door design, the Shaker style embodies the principles of its founders: unadorned, functional design combined with skilled craftsmanship. The Harvey Norman kitchens update this look with contemporary handles and easy-glide drawer systems.

Harvey Norman Wairau Park also showcases a variety of other kitchens, designed to be price-competitive. Cabinetry varies from solid cherry wood to Melamine, with a choice of up to 10 colours.
