Changing the colour of the walls is the easiest and most cost-effective way to transform an interior. And there's no reason why you can't be a little adventurous an accent wall is a good place to start.

Developer Gerry Wilkinson opted for a rich, warm accent wall for this home theatre room. Resene Volcano, from the Resene Multi-Finish collection, enlivens the neutral tones of the furnishings, and helps create an intimate theatre atmosphere. The colour is highlighted by white trim skirting boards, architraves and adjacent walls are painted in Resene Vista White, from the Resene The Range Whites & Neutrals fandeck.

The accent wall was painted in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, a tough, acrylic enamel, well suited to broadwall areas due to its durability and low sheen, which minimises surface imperfections.

To help you work out the best colour selection for your own home, Resene has just released The Range 2007. This fandeck presents more than 150 of the latest local and international colour trends. The fandeck also makes suggestions about shades that work well together.

The Resene EzyPaint virtual painting software offers another easy way to choose paint colours. This program gives you the opportunity to preview and change schemes on your computer. The software is free to download from the Resene website, and is also available on CD.
