Sense of arrival Stutex Stone

First impressions matter, but it's not always easy to decide just how to dress the entry to your new home.

Gary and Christine Pearce, the owners of this house on a lifestyle block north of Auckland, liked the idea of using textural stone and approached Stutex Stone, the supplier of a wide range of manufactured stone products.

The owners say they were shown several homes featuring a variety of stone types, and especially liked the look of Ledgestone, which resembles Central Otago schist. They chose a blend of LS60 and LS77 colours that go with the classic modern architectural style of the home. The colour palette and texture also blend in with the natural surroundings.

The Ledgestone was used on fence pillars right around the boundary of the property, and on pillars at the front entrance and on the rear terrace. For visual consistency, Ledgestone was also used to clad the fireplace surround inside the house, and the outdoor fireplace on the terrace.

Dora Leonard of Stutex Stone says the company's manufactured stone profiles replicate New Zealand's regional stone, and feature intricate surface textures that are hard to distinguish from natural stone.

"The veneers provide an easy way to achieve a natural stone appearance without the usual associated cost," she says. "Because the veneers are lightweight, they can be installed over standard foundations without the need for extra structural bracing. The fast and efficient installation provides further cost savings."

Leonard says customers can also have confidence in the stone it has a BEAL (Building Element Assessment Laboratory) appraisal (No C827)."
