In any high-end resort, a luxurious spa will be an essential part of the package. So when an owner requests a home with a relaxed, holiday feel it's no surprise that the master suite has a similarly pampering atmosphere. This master bathroom is at the outermost end of a Balinese-style family home created by building designer Dane Richardson. Like the rest of the house, the space enjoys views of the lake, with silicon-jointed glass all that stands between bathers and the great outdoors."With two sides walled in solid granite, the space has a secure, comfortable feel," says the designer. "Electrically operated blinds can be closed as required, although on a 60ha property, privacy is not really a major consideration."Besides the main bathroom space with the tub set in prime viewing position, the master suite includes a partially walled-off rear area for shower and toilet. There is also a connecting space between the bathroom and bedroom. View of contemporary light-toned bathroom off bedroom with wooden floor. "We intended to create a restful, luxurious suite and a breathing space between the rooms adds to this effect," says Richardson. In addition to providing some separation, this connecting area is home to the his-and-hers vanities, set opposite each other on either side of the entry. A pocket sliding door separates the ensuite from the bedroom. With storage space an important part of the design, Richardson introduced a 1.2m-high sideboard at the rear of the bathroom. This has an engineered stone countertop to complement the honed limestone floors and walls. Below, lacquered cabinet doors open to tall cupboards, providing ample room for towels and the like."A walk-in dressing room was another client request for this master suite," says the designer. "The dressing area is accessed directly from the bedroom and features custom cabinetry." View of contemporary light-toned bathroom off bedroom with wooden floor. Overall, the bathroom has an understated, clean-lined presence that lets the scenery take centre stage. The extensive use of stone and timber in the design echoes the prevalence of these materials throughout the residence."The smooth richness of the blackbutt wood floorboards in the bedroom gives way to the cool touch of stone in the ensuite even the soles of the feet feel pampered," Richardson says.
