WITH LARGE numbers of shoppers destined to use the Dress-Smart retail outlet, fire safety was naturally of paramount importance. Adams Steelguard undertook the construction, installation and glazing of the motion-activated safety doors installed between the lift and stairwell and the servicing carparks.

"Three double doors and sidelights were introduced over the two levels of enclosed carparking, and for egress to the rooftop carparking," says Adams Steelguard managing director Rob Andrews. "In addition, four static fireproof windows were installed on the stairwell. Given their safety function, it was important that the doors remain closed when not in use, hence automatic opening was a client requirement."

Adams Steelguard used Dorma's swing door operator, double-door co-ordination units and motion sensors to create workable solutions for the project.

The company constructed the doors themselves from its own Jansen profiles, using Pyroswiss clear, fire-rated glass. The doors, sidelights and stair windows were all finished in a Silver Pearl powder coating.
