Respecting history

By its very nature, a school is a busy place, so when it becomes a building site as well, the logistics can only become even more complex.

Mainzeal was the preferred contractor for the construction of the new arts, science and technology block at Baradene College of the Sacred Heart in Remuera, Auckland. First established on this site in 1909, the Baradene College campus includes a number of historic buildings, and Mainzeal had to ensure that these were not damaged by other construction work.

To complete the year-long project, Mainzeal, led by project manager Stewart Lovelock, factored the school's needs into its construction timetable. Because Baradene is on an arterial road, materials could only be delivered during non-peak times, and when the students were safely inside the school grounds.

Up-to-date research, market information and network initiatives, both at a local and national level, are essential to help property owners, managers and developers undertake a project such as this. The Property Council New Zealand (PCNZ) is a not-for-profit organisation that represents commercial, industrial, retail, property fund and multi-unit residential property owners, managers and investors, providing these groups with opportunities to create, foster and promote a strong and vibrant property sector.
