Putting on the Ritz

The use of quality materials in the refurbishment of the Ritz Carlton apartment extends to the wood flooring. To create the right look, the designer specified Italian-manufactured Listone Giordano Original Classico wood flooring in quarter sawn White Oak Elegant.

Supplied by Margaritelli USA, the flooring was delivered pre-sanded and finished by the contractor, Becht Corporation. The wood was stained and then received three coats of varnish.

Margaritelli director Marco Cimmino says Listone Giordano wood flooring is manufactured using advanced technology to ensure stability and durability.

"Each floorboard is a 5mm plank of precision-milled, quality-sawn hardwood," he says. "Boards are chosen for their uniform color, texture and grain that will retain the beauty for generations.

"Square edges allow the assembly of a very smooth floor that is easy to clean."

Cimmino says the boards also feature a multi-ply layer of sturdy marine birch plywood, engineered with cross-fiber construction to provide extra stability.

"In addition, the quarter-sawn boards used in this refurbishment optimize the natural strength of the wood, making them twice as stable as plain-sawn wood."

Cimmino says a variety of looks can be obtained using different types of wood.

"A wood floor can be classic and refined, or warm and casual, and Listone Giordano products are graded to reflect these styles. Flooring strips in the Elegant and Elite grades have uniform color and grain patterns, for a more formal appearance.The Dekora and Cottage grades have greater variation in color and grain, offering a more natural character."

While some boards are delivered pre-sanded for finishing after installation, other products feature eight layers of UV-dried acrylic a varnish that is non-toxic, odorless and solvent-free.
