Haydn & Rollett had previously worked with Auckland Stonemasons when it built the stone walls at the nearby Westlake Boys High School. For this project, Auckland Stonemasons worked with the project architect on the design, which features capped pillars, separated by steel fences, mounted on a low stone wall. The company sourced a local Auckland stone, honeycomb basalt, for the pillars and walls, and made the corners and cappings using bluestone kerbs.Originally set up by current owners Jim and Len Lavas' grandfather, a stonemason who emigrated in 1927 from a small Dalmatian village, Auckland Stonemasons has been building stone walls throughout New Zealand ever since.
