Professional's choice
For his own home, architect John Haryett wanted low-maintenance materials and a traditional look. Palliside weatherboards fitted the bill
Timber weatherboards have been part of New Zealand's architectural heritage for more than a century. And the traditional profile of those weatherboards still influences residential design today.
It's a look that helped determine the choice of Palliside weatherboards for architect John Haryett's own home. Although the house is designed to suit a modern lifestyle, he wanted the exterior to convey a traditional feel.
"Palliside Traditional weatherboards have that same profile," he says. "But, the cladding was also specified as I wanted the house to be easy to care for. Using Palliside means we will never have to paint it. And any wind-blown dirt will simply wash off. We have also used natural aluminium door and window joinery, and PVC downpipes to ensure the entire house is virtually maintenance free."
As the house is in a beachside suburb, it was also important to specify a cladding that would withstand the long-term effects of salt spray. Palliside is well suited to these locations, being impervious to such conditions.
John Haryett says he also appreciates the cost effectiveness of Palliside and the 25-year guarantee.
