Personal touch

The world of electronic automation is increasingly designed to pamper with customised systems that welcome you home and even replay your activities when you're away on holiday

Integrated technology has never had a more important place in our lives. Custom systems can match your day-to-day routines and forever remove that nagging question at the back of your mind as you drive into the city: "Did I turn the stove off? I'm sure I did."

This inner-city home has several tiers of home automation that make life easier for its owners. The entire house is wired for comfort by Automation Associates.

Perhaps the system that brings the most peace of mind is as close and as small as a key ring attachment. No larger than a garage door remote, the Elite four-button alarm fob locks the front door, closes the garage door, and in turn secures the front gate. The system then runs through the electronics of the home, ensuring everything is turned off, right down to the owner's bedside lamp and the heated towel rails.

At the other end of the day, the owner's homecoming is equally well acknowledged. With a touch of the same button gates swing open, garage doors rise, the front door unlocks, hall lights come on and his favourite music floats down the hall.

Should you lose your keys, the security of your home is still assured. Much like phoning the bank if your credit card goes astray, a quick call to Automation Associates will deactivate your key fob, and a replacement is sent on its way.

For total control of all things electrical, a Vantage Lighting and Automation System touch-screen panel in the kitchen operates everything from the gas fireplace to the Sky channels. The system has its own clock and calendar and can automatically respond to changes in the seasons or times of day for myriad functions.

Automation Associates also supplied a universal remote that operates the audio and both home entertainment systems without the owner ever needing to leave his armchair.

The technologies may be efficient but they have a heart, too. When the owner goes away, the Vantage system fondly replays the lighting activities of the past 14 days as a deterrent to watchful burglars.
