Par excellence
Both the materials and colours in this new kitchen reflect the lush garden and golf course views from the open-plan living spaces
Kitchens that form part of a larger living area need to be defined within the overall space, but continuity is also important.
This new kitchen, designed by Pauline Stockwell, addresses both these factors. A semi-freestanding wall in the living area not only presents a degree of separation, but also provides a wall to support the ventilation system and overhead cabinetry.
"The wall is designed so the owners can still enjoy the extensive views from the kitchen," Stockwell says. "These same views helped determine the soft lime green tones in the colour-backed glass splashback, the stools, and also the colour flecks in the Quarella benchtops."
Stockwell says the existing wood joinery also influenced the design. The wenge wood veneer cabinets and solid wenge shelving complement the dark-stained window and door frames.
To cater to the needs of a family that likes to entertain, the kitchen has ample bench space and a separate scullery.
