Out of the blue

Where there's a will, there's a way this could well be the motto for building a pool on a tight city site. And, as this project shows, fitting a pool into a restricted space doesn't mean you can't incorporate a number of special features.

Mayfair Pools agent Richard Rowley says that in addition to limited space between the property boundaries, the construction was complicated by a council pipe running in two directions.

"These factors helped determine the final shape of the pool," Rowley says. "To enhance the aesthetics, we were able to conceal the pump and filter behind a blue mosaic-tiled feature wall, which has a sheer descent waterfall. An LED lighting strip beneath the waterfall highlights the water at night. This provides a focal point for the outdoor living area, and the living spaces inside the house."

A pool cover and roller are also concealed the system is recessed into a pit at one end of the pool.

Rowley says the mosaic tiles, which also feature around the water line and on the steps and bench seat in the pool, are complemented by a Royal Blue pool interior.

Filtration is provided by the Poolrite Magna Pool System. Rowley says this system is a blend of mineral salts, including magnesium and potassium, that provide an array of therapeutic and health benefits, while treating the water.
