There can be no better endorsement of a new kitchen than to see it featured among the winners in a major industry design competition.

For many homeowners who choose to work with a National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) member, such recognition is the icing on the cake. An eye-catching design and greatly improved functionality are reward enough along with the knowledge that a well-designed kitchen substantially increases the value of their biggest investment.

The expertise of NKBA members is highlighted by the annual NKBA Kitchen and Bathroom Awards, where projects are judged on visual appeal, structural feasibility, ventilation, safety and ergonomics. Two of the winning entries in the NKBA Chicago Midwest Chapter Design Competition are shown on these pages.

The key reason many homeowners call on the services of an NKBA member, however, is to benefit from their professional expertise. Cathy Sparling, CKD, NKBA MidWest president, says NKBA members stay abreast of current trends by attending professional development courses that raise the bar for kitchen and bath design.

"Homeowners can rest assured they are dealing with a highly trained and experienced professional. Hiring an NKBA member will also save money in the long run by avoiding costly mistakes. There can be other cost savings as well, with members able to source products at competitive rates."

Another resource provided by the association is the Kitchen & Bath Consumer Workbook. This handy reference guide includes remodeling tips and answers to common questions.
