During its many years of involvement in the building industry, AE Smith has been associated with all disciplines of construction and refurbishment, says Peter Staedler, AE Smith Victorian general manager.

"As a company we have worked on industrial, commercial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and institutional facilities. However, this has been a special project to be involved in, as the MCG is close to everyone's hearts," he says.

AE Smith is a specialist in the design, engineering, computer drafting, manufacturing, installation and project management of air conditioning and mechanical systems.

At the MCG, AE Smith designed and installed all mechanical services, including air conditioning, boilers, pipework, ductwork and exhaust systems.

The stadium was required to be operational at certain times, so facilities to cope were required. Work was completed in five stages, with stage one seeing the plant room completed. Once a section was completed, it was impossible to go back, so it was essential for all work to be accurately and promptly completed at each stage.
