When the Angus Steak House recently relocated to a former warehouse, it asked Ashcon to undertake the refurbishment of the building
Refurbishing a well-known restaurant requires sensitivity to ensure regular patrons still feel welcome and comfortable. However, it can also be an opportunity to update and encourage new guests.
When Auckland's long-established Angus Steak House had to relocate recently, its owners debated this issue. The new building, a 100-year-old wool warehouse, had also served time as an office and retail space, but after neglect was in a bad state of disrepair.
Interior fit-out specialist Ashcon, led by managing director Geoff Ash, took on the contract to refurbish the space, working closely throughout the project with architect Parlante Design.
Ashcon gutted the space, sandblasted the old brick walls, cleaned up the kauri floorboards and added a mezzanine level to create additional seating areas.
Funky architectural details, such as sliding panels made from rough-sawn timber and feature walls, add new interest to the original theme. Ashcon also installed modern services, including ventilation, lighting and fire prevention, to meet council codes.
Ashcon has been in business for 45 years and specialises in interior fit-outs and renovations. With an experienced team of project managers and administration staff, as well as its own wooden and aluminium joinery factories, Ashcon has the resources to undertake projects of all sizes.
