In a multi-storey building, the vertical transport systems need to be swift and efficient. For this project, where the owner's objective was for the building to achieve a 5-Star Green Star rating, an energy-efficient lift system was an essential part of the brief.

Schindler Lifts NZ took up the gauntlet, supplying and installing four passenger elevators and two escalators for 21 Queen Street. The company's Schindler 7000 series lifts were specified for their energy efficiency, as well as for their destination control and high-level security interface.

This series of lifts features the regeneration capability of the Schindler drive system, where excess energy is converted back to re-enter the power supply, rather than being released back into the machine space in the form of heat. These regenerative drives are particularly suited to the class of lift that has been installed at 21 Queen Street.

Schindler 7000 uses carefully selected materials in the design of its products, cleverly thought out right through to the end of the life cycle. The high-rise components consist of a large proportion of metals that are recyclable. Over 85% of the total weight is recyclable material made from different alloys of steel, cast iron and copper.

In addition, car lighting and fans automatically turn off when the lift has not been used for a specified period of time, which further enhances power savings.
