The ceiling, provided by Forman Building Systems, played a strong supporting role in this project

As well as concealing the void containing building services, the ceiling often has to provide a supporting role for air conditioning and lighting systems.

Forman Building Systems supplied the ceiling panels and ceiling grid and Forman Commercial Interiors installed the system throughout 21 Queen Street. A particular requirement of the project was to provide a modern system, designed with metric measurements, that would fit seamlessly into a building originally constructed using imperial modules.

For the project, Forman Building Systems supplied Armstrong RH99 Ultima K2C2 acoustic ceiling tiles, a product with top-of-the-line green credentials, excellent acoustic properties, a high recycled content, high impact resistance and durability.

The supporting Armstrong Blue Tongue Aluminium Grid was strong enough to support the Active Chilled Beam air conditioning system and lighting system. In addition, it was specially modified for the project to enable air to circulate back into the plenum area through 80mm-wide perforated metal strips that double as make-up strips, converting the ceiling from an imperial module to a metric module.

"By choosing the Armstrong grid system, the various services could be subtly incorporated, so they have an unobtrusive presence on the finished ceiling," says Forman market manager John Kitchen.
