Mark Elmore, head of design at Fisher & Paykel Appliances, says that for years, homeowners and designers have seen modular systems as space-saving solutions. But more recently, the concept has morphed to provide customization, while maintaining style and accessibility.

"At Fisher & Paykel, our designers have taken into consideration the subtle nuances of environmental psychology in order to create the perfect customized workspace," says Elmore. "Modules can be positioned at the optimal ergonomic height and position, based on what is comfortable to the consumer. Nowadays your kitchen island might include warming, dishwasher and refrigeration drawers. And appliances can be in stainless steel or integrated into the custom cabinetry it is no challenge to create the exact design story desired."

Fisher & Paykel provides a range of models in different sizes and configurations for optimal flexibility. For example, you might forgo a standard refrigerator and opt for two 36in CoolDrawer refrigerators, which can be used to chill or freeze food there are five different settings that can be changed as required.

One CoolDrawer can be stocked with fresh produce in the nucleus of the kitchen, while the other can be positioned in a convenient location where the family can find a beverage without interrupting the main work area.

The CoolDrawer can be teamed with the renowned Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer, which is also available in a 36in model. The 36in DishDrawer holds nine place settings, and can accommodate 13in plates and long-stemmed wine glasses. Fully adjustable racks and fold-down tines ensure it can be adapted to meet your needs. The DishDrawer also incorporates Fisher & Paykel's intelligent load sensing technology for optimum performance.

Other 36in appliances include the frameless black glass CookSurface, which has retractable gas burners and pan supports. When the burners and knobs are recessed, the cooktop has a smooth, easy-clean surface.
