The view out the window can determine the architecture of a house it can also influence the interior design.

The interior of this home, in a tranquil country setting near Auckland, was designed by Yellowfox to complement the natural landscape.

Designer Jenny Harris says the owners of the new home wanted a relaxing, contemporary design that wouldn't date.

"It was also important that the interior wouldn't clash with the view, and the owners wanted to incorporate natural materials wherever possible."

With this in mind, Harris created an inviting interior featuring warm neutral tones with distinctive accents. The walls in the living room, for example, are painted in Resene Tea, with a feature wallpaper from the Vision Neo range on the chimney wall that soars to a high gabled ceiling.

Vision wallpaper was also used for the walls in the cosy and snug television room. The wallpaper is from the striped Schoner Wohnen range, and is teamed with Resene Oilskin on the chimney.

DFD Lisbon oak flooring helps to anchor the interior.

"The oak floor provides a crisp, yet natural look that enhances the contemporary feel," says Harris. "We were particularly pleased with the quality of the installation by Bee Jay Flooring. The shaggy carpet insert in the lounge and the luxurious Norman Ellison wool carpet from the Platinum Twist range were also supplied and laid by Bee Jay Flooring."

The kitchen and bathroom cabinetry in Bestwood oak veneer, manufactured by TK&C Kitchenmaker, further enhances the visual link with the natural landscape. The dark-stained veneer is teamed with an Architectural Stone engineered stone benchtop in Paloma Snow. The bold contrast between these materials is even more evident in the scullery, thanks to a bright red DecoGlaze splashback. This adds a playful note to a small room that is not normally the centre of attention, says Harris.

Bedrooms and bathrooms also make a design statement. The master bedroom has another Vision wallpaper from the Organza range. This room also features bed linen from Bianca Lorenne and accessories from CC Interiors.

Polished Milano Sand tiles from Tile Warehouse line the walls in the ensuite, with similar tiles in a matt finish on the floors. Contemporary basins and tapware from Robertson complete the look.
