A green design doesn't begin and end with a building envelope fixtures, fittings and furniture also need to be taken into consideration. For the 5-Star Green Star Club Tower office building in Christchurch, there was never any doubt the green philosophy would extend to every decision regarding the interior fit-out now and into the future.

Club Tower tenants chose eco-friendly New Zealand-manufactured office and reception furniture from Aspect Furniture Systems. The nationwide company specialises in the design, supply and installation of office furniture, partitioning and accessories for the corporate and government sectors.

Sales manager Andy McCulloch says Aspect Furniture is registered for the ISO 9001 Quality and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standards.

"Aspect operates these international standards as they provide an externally audited assurance for both our domestic and export customers," he says. "For the three customers over five floors of Club Tower, we provided a range of fit-out solutions. The prestigious line-up of clients included accounting firm KPMG, which also used Aspect for its earlier Auckland and Wellington fit-outs."

Specific items commissioned for this project include workstations, partitioning, desk screens, mobile and fixed storage solutions, seating, accessories, meeting room furniture and a reception counter.

Aspect Furniture's range is designed for longevity products are not rendered obsolete by new designs. Rather, ranges are expanded and improved in a way that is compatible with existing systems, effectively prolonging the lifecycle of the product.

Recyclable materials are also used wherever possible, including aluminium, which is 100% recyclable and is the main component in the furniture design.

"Aspect is committed to furthering the use of environmentally friendly materials," says McCulloch. "We also have a product stewardship programme in place, ensuring recycling of the furniture components at the end of life."
