MUCH OF A building's character comes from the materials used in its construction. For Circle on Cavill, a number of different steel products enhance the contemporary, semi-industrial look of the towers.

Craig's Engineering, a multi-skilled engineering company specialising in metal fabrication, was contracted to supply all the structural steel. The company also undertook miscellaneous metalwork, fabricated and installed the aluminium walkways and screens, as well as the stainless steel-and-glass balustrades, and supplied the steel for the retail areas and kiosks. Due to coastal conditions, exposed steel elements were given a high-quality paint finish.

Managing director Craig Douglas says that as Craig's Engineering designs, fabricates and erects its own steel products, it was able to have control over the project, ensuring the steel was supplied and installed on time, and to a high professional standard.

As well as undertaking design and construct projects, Craig's Engineering works on building refurbishments and plant maintenance. The company also supplies consumables and fixings.

"Our workshop is fully fitted out with the latest machinery, enabling the company to undertake projects ranging in value from $10 to $10 million," says Douglas. "In addition, we have on-site staff who are specially trained to liaise with clients in design and construct projects, beginning with the budgeting phase and following through to project completion."
