You may be forgiven for not spending much time at work contemplating the ceiling and its place in the greater scheme of the office but that's not to say its role isn't an important one.

For the Deloitte offices and the Deloitte Centre in general the ceiling was integral to the overall look of the interior, says Rob McCleery, principal of Accurate Ceilings.

"The project required three categories of ceiling Ultima 1200 x 600mm tiles, Ecophon Acoustic 600 x 600mm tiles and a suspended Gibraltar board ceiling. For the office floors the ceilings are predominantly Ultima tile, specified for their washable, impact-resistant surface. This surface resists scratches, minimising the need for frequent panel replacement, and is also more resistent to HVAC soiling.

"Ultima ceiling panels also comprise a large percentage of pre- and post-consumer recycled content, up to 80%, an important consideration to the Deloitte organisation," says McCleery.

Also of consideration was the incorporation of the Jean Batten building facade into the new Deloitte Centre, which required its own treatment.

"On floors 1 8, my team replicated the cornice detail from the Jean Batten building and incorporated 300m² of Ecophon tiles, also a visual reminder of the previous building. These tiles then give way to the more modern Ultima tiles and suspended ceiling format that is found throughout the remainder of the building," McCleery says.
