Lines in space
This three-story row house was tall and narrow, so it made sense for the kitchen cabinetry to reflect this
Few kitchen design choices are made in isolation. Rather, ideas often stem from the architectural style of the house. Designer Shawna Dillon chose to mirror the linear proportions of this Washington, DC row house with the Sistema Zeta door style by Snaidero.
"The contemporary door style in a dark oak finish provides a nice balance between old and new," she says. "It suits the local architecture it's a modern look, but not sterile."
This is not a large kitchen, so Dillon backlit the two upper cabinets to provide depth and create an illusion of space. A steel and glass range hood from Miele was chosen to give a lighter feel than an all- metal one.
"The design of the space is not just about aesthetics it's about improving function and efficiency," says Dillon. "We've included accessible storage, such as shallow drawers on either side of the cooktop, to make every inch count."
The cabinetry was designed and manufactured in Italy by Snaidero. Service and quality is paramount, says Dillon, which is why the company offers a 10-year guarantee on its kitchens.
