With sustainable design being a key driver of virtually every commercial project today, buildings are increasingly designed to maximise natural light. To ensure light filters into all corners of the Albany Senior High School, and to maintain a visual connection, semi-circular meeting rooms are clad in Glazelite fibreglass sheeting from Supreme Plastic Roofing.

General manager Graeme Coster says flat, 3mm fibreglass was specified, in the clear colourway. This provides a cloudy, semi-transparent partitioning that allows light to penetrate, but maintains a degree of privacy. "Glazelite is one of very few flat solid fibreglass sheeting products to be UV stabilised," Coster says. "It is also one of only a few products that are available in long lengths. It can be curved and easily cut and drilled. And it is durable enough to withstand impact."

Coster says Glazelite is frequently used to bring light into formerly shaded areas in commercial and residential interiors. But it is equally suitable for exterior use, and is frequently specified for roofing and conservatory cladding, due to its high durability and outdoor stability. It is also used on truck and racing car trailers to bring light into the trailer units.

"Another application for Glazelite is in multi-storey residential buildings where apartments are close together. The sheeting lets the light into the buildings but residents still have privacy from neighbouring properties."

The fibreglass sheeting comes in a range of colours in addition to clear, and is one of a number of different roofing and cladding products available from Supreme Plastic Roofing. The company is a member of the Roofing Association of New Zealand.
