Light touch
The lighting scheme in this home fulfils two roles providing a safe and comfortable level of light, and complementing the interior design
As well as providing an adequate level of illumination, the choice of light fixtures can add a finishing flourish to any space.
Such is the case in this house, designed and owned by architect Richard Dalman. In choosing a lighting scheme that would fit the textured and contemporary style of the home's interiors, Dalman drew upon the knowledge of Mark Herring from Mark Herring Lighting.
"The work areas in the kitchen had to be well lit, so lights were placed over the benchtops and cooking area. Square Modus Boxo fixtures were chosen to go above the island and dining table to add some visual interest to the space, and also to echo the linear nature of the design. The dining area and kitchen are also linked by these fixtures," says Herring.
In the bathroom, a wall-to-wall Cornice Klik System lamp is installed above the mirror. This angles light onto the face for a good level of illumination when shaving or putting on make-up, says Herring.
"This creates a more flattering level of illumination than the usual downlight."
Mark Herring is a member of IES: The Lighting Society. The aim of the organisation is to advance the art and science of illumination, and provide information to interested parties. Members include engineers, architects, students, contractors, designers and manufacturers.
