A key element of any development is drainage. In the case of internal drainage, outlets can contribute to the overall look of the decor.

Allproof Industries provided products for several aspects of the Chews Lane project. Elements included roof drains and drains for the car parks, offices, and apartments, passive fire protection for service penetrations and acoustic lagging for waste pipe.

Different areas naturally called for specific drainage solutions, says marketing manager Alex McIntyre.

"On the roof, domed bronze outlets were required as the waterproofing took the form of a heat-applied membrane because of this plastic outlets would not be suitable. These were used in conjunction with mechanical clamp rings," he says.

For the car parking building, bronze podium drains were specified to withstand cars driving over them.

On apartment decks, bronze wastes were again used. Here, together with a clamp ring and grate, they were tucked out of sight under the deck pavers.

"The square chrome-on-brass outlet used in the apartment bathrooms and kitchens turned what was a basic utility into an attractive metal fixture," he says.

Waste pipes were acoustically lagged to reduce the sound of waste water disturbing neighbouring apartments and offices.
