Let the games begin

It's the behind-the-scenes work that determines the success of any venue. The world-class facilities at the MCG reflect the skills of many local companies

Designing a stadium to accommodate a crowd of up to 100,000 spectators means choosing products and materials that will go the distance. Durability, resilience, and ease of maintenance are all important considerations. One of the areas subjected to the most wear and tear is the flooring on both the inside and outside of the stadium building.

To provide a durable and decorative non-slip surface, the architects specified two types of epoxy flooring and polished concrete from SMG Concrete Products.

A water-based epoxy coating system in stone grey was applied to all the floors beneath the seat plats. Epoxy systems, in designer colours and patterns, are also a feature of the food court floors. Other areas where epoxy coating was applied include the cool room, freezer and keg rooms.

SMG Concrete Products also applied polished concrete finishes in the new Northern Stand. All the products used are environmentally friendly and comply with Australian standards.
