La bella Italia
For basins and fixtures that add a sculptural element to any bathroom, choose contemporary Italian designs from Lacava
Italy has long been recognized as a leading source of contemporary design. From the classical aesthetic of the Renaissance, through today's minimalism, Italian style is at the forefront.
Chicago-based Lacava Design draws on that rich European history and artistic sensibility, says executive manager Carmine Lacava.
"We source our faucets and porcelain sinks directly from Italy," says Lacava.
"Our glass sinks come from an area near Pesaro on the Adriatic Sea. The people in that region have been working with glass for hundreds of years."
Lacava designs blend wood, glass, porcelain and metal. And the sculptural lines of their modern bathroom furniture and accessories bridge the gap between the contemporary and traditional elements found in many homes.
"Very few people have a home that is completely 100% contemporary in style," Lacava says. Introducing one or two strong pieces, such as a vanity or faucet, will give a bathroom a modern feel.
Lacava's line of Italian bathroom accessories includes freestanding and wall-mounted mirrors and cabinets, shelving, shower heads, traps and drains.
