Inside story
A high level of specification is evident throughout Lumley Centre's interior, from the intricately planned foyer through to lighting and office design
One way to be innovative in bathroom design is to change the appearance of a standard bathroom item such that it is almost unrecognisable. This was the approach taken for the bathrooms in Lumley Centre, which feature vanity units that are made from flat slabs, though installed with a tilt.
The units were designed by Peddle Thorp Architects, and made and installed by Trethewey Granite & Marble. The engineered quartz slab slopes back towards the wall, and water runs into a long, narrow collection tray. Trethewey created several mock-ups to ensure the correct angle and size so water from the taps doesn't splash the user.
Trethewey supplied and installed stone for much of Lumley Centre. Vando Taupe limestone from Turkey in both honed and high-pressure water-jet finishes was used for the foyer on level nine. They also installed a Waitaha schist feature wall in the foyer, and basalt floors and walls in the rotunda on level nine. External floors and the driveway were made from exfoliated basalt.
