Getting to the office has become faster, easier and a lot more comfortable thanks to the Schindler Lifts-installed Miconic 10 elevators at the Maritime Towers

In the same way a reception area is perceived as a window to the world of offices beyond, the elevator taking you there tells a similar story.

Many first-time visitors to an office building or hotel judge the overall ambience primarily by the lobby, including the elevator area. As supplier and installer of the Maritime Towers' four 17-stop elevators, Schindler Lifts NZ Ltd has helped ensure many people will have positive memories of their initial visit to the building.

"It was a pleasure to be involved in the Maritime Towers project," says Schindler Wellington branch manager, Robert Hallsmith.

"The team, comprising all the major contractors, was great to work with and that always makes a project of this scale much easier. It is something we find fairly typical of Fletcher Construction projects."

It is not just the sleek look of the elevators that leaves a positive impression. While there are other Miconic 10 installations in Wellington, this is the first time one has been installed into a brand new building, says Hallsmith.

The Miconic 10 has been described as an innovation in elevators, possibly the first since push-buttons replaced lift attendants. It is based on the simple but effective idea that a passenger enters their destination before entering the elevator.

The in-built software then immediately allocates individual cars to passengers, even during the busiest rush periods. This ensures that, rather than stopping at each floor, people travelling to the same destination are grouped together for a far speedier ride, and it eliminates the need for buttons inside the lift.

"Gone are the days where the only options for travellers are up or down. This technology employs an advanced programme to manage the complexities of traffic patterns as they change throughout the day, ensuring a much smoother flow," says Hallsmith.
