Scoring one prize in a major national design competition is a coup. Wining five awards is a sure indication that a house is something out of the ordinary.

The designer of this new home, Cymon Allfrey from Stanley-Joblin and Allfrey, Christchurch, won the Resene Supreme Award in the Architectural Designers New Zealand/Resene 2007 National Design Awards. The same house also won Allfrey the Trends Residential New Single Dwelling over 250m² Award, the Elephant Plasterboard Residential Interiors Award, the Applico Kitchen Award, and the Fabbian Bathroom Award.

Located on the ridge of Monks Spur on the Port Hills in Christchurch, the house has a clean, minimalist design that maximises the view. The design also makes the most of the strong relationship between indoors and out.

The kitchen design was lauded for its visual link with the extended living spaces similar materials appear throughout. The high ceiling, which provides extra natural light, was also considered a pleasing design element.
