No matter how dramatic the public areas, a five-star hotel is ultimately measured by the standard of its guest suites. For the Hilton Sydney, the quality is evident in the fixtures and fittings, which include furniture and joinery manufactured and installed by IJF Australia.

Commercial manager David Keyes says the company worked closely with the designers, builder and client to develop prototypes, mock-ups and samples for many items of furniture.

"IJF was able, in this development process, to help realise the design concept and at the same time, manufacture a value-for-money quality product suitable for a five-star hotel," he says.

Keyes says the installation of the Queensland black bean veneer with a horizontal grain was a complex process, which drew on the company's experience and resources.

"It required extensive preparation to ensure the grain flowed between panels, particularly as there were curved headboards and mitred corners to take into account."
