Cabling solutions are integral to the operation of a large stadium ITL Technologies provided structured systems to IRB standards

In an age of sophisticated stadium facilities, high-end, future-proof communications cabling is an integral element. ITL Technologies was asked to supply and install Communications Structured Cabling systems to meet International Rugby Board (IRB) standards. The multidisciplined work involved computer networks, telephone systems, wireless access points, and security, including IP cameras and video monitors, as well as turnstiles and point of sale facilities.
Given the scale and scope of the project, there were several challenges for ITL. The complex nature of construction spaces meant pathways for cabling and siting of outlets often had to be designed and built as the project progressed. Many areas also required custom components, such as cabinet and termination boxes, to meet the stringent global standards and guaranteed system performance. These were made in stainless steel for longevity and to attract a high IP safety rating. Specialist cable imported from the USA meant long lead times and working closely with suppliers to meet tight deadlines.
Products used included Tyco Cat 7A Shielded Cabling and components as they met the IRB standard. Tyco Electronics componentry had the advantage of supplying two or more services to one wall socket. As the first installation of this system in New Zealand, specialist training was implemented by ITL Technologies to ensure work was carried out to the highest possible standard.
