Blinds from KWA improve energy efficiency
Minimising solar gain was another way the design team ensured the new Arup Brisbane office would achieve a comfortable indoor environment and high energy efficiency. To this end, the designers specified environmentally friendly blinds from Brisbane-based KWA Blinds.
Director Sonya Wilson says the fit-out features Vertilux Easy Drive roller blinds in semi-transparent Euroscreen fabric, in the colour Smoke; Vertilux Double Multilinked roller blinds both chain operated and motorised in Euroscreen Smoke fabric, and Madison blockout fabric in the colour Alaska.
"These products all have the highest possible rating within eco-specifier criteria," Wilson says. "They have no PVC and low VOCs, so they emit fewer gases and chemicals, creating a healthier workplace. The fabric used in the blinds also assists with energy efficiency and provides daytime glare control."
Wilson says the double blinds enable Arup to achieve extra sun protection and privacy. The Madison blockout fabric also ensures the interior is dark enough for audiovisual presentations. The motorised blinds eliminate the need for chains and cords.
KWA Blinds, established in 1994, specialises in the supply of high-quality, custom-made blinds and curtains for the commercial market. The company works with a wide range of manufacturers, which means it can readily source the most appropriate products.
Other major projects in the company's portfolio include Brisbane Square, Northbridge office tower and Brisbane Magistrates' Court.
