Get set, go
Innovative building techniques resulted in additional facilities for the Waitakere Stadium, built by Canam Construction
Creating a commercial building that will retain its good looks over time can be a challenge. However, ensuring that exterior surfaces are efficiently protected from the elements is a good head start.
For effective results, choose a material that complements and protects your structure at the same time, says Wayne Hellier, Facade Technologies company director.
The stadium's curved walls are clad in Alcopla composite aluminium panels, which have been fabricated to complete this bold sculptural design.
To achieve this complex array of panelling, Facade Technologies used a specially imported machine from Italy, to cut and shape the facade and fascia panels. A computerised cutting tool, and a specialist rolling machine, ensured the architects exact specifications were maintained, while reducing construction time, and associated labour costs.
Alcopla aluminium cladding is made from a 3mm-thick thermoplastic laminate core, with 0.5mm aluminium skin on both sides.
"It is a versatile product that offers, good colour consistency and low maintenance," says Hellier.
