Minimising the running costs of the Waitakere Stadium was made possible in part by using energy efficient consumables.

The Philips lighting team successfully installed a technologically advanced, energy efficient, lighting system to reduce long-term operating costs at the stadium, says Carol MacDonald, Philips' senior product manager of luminaires.

"We were commissioned to provide a custom lighting solution to meet the energy efficiency policies set down by the stadium developers," says MacDonald.

Philips managed to reduce the total lighting power load by 14%. Where high frequency control gear was also employed, the lighting load was reduced by a further 22%.

Waitakere Sports Trust Chairman, Ross Dallow, says, "Philips was chosen as the principal lighting supplier, because of the company's commitment to continually improve environmental performance. Reducing running costs ensures that every member of the community can afford access to the stadium facilities."
