Finishing touch
It's not just the fixtures and fittings that determine the French ambience of this kitchen - the Quarry Stone tiles also enhance its authenticity
Traditional French Provincial kitchens are characterised by their country-style furniture, butlers' sinks and large cookers. But tiled flooring with a well-worn patina is also an intrinsic part of these family living spaces.
For this kitchen by Pauline Stockwell Design, Quantum Ceramics' Quarry Stone floor tiles in Slate were chosen to enhance the rustic ambience. Larry Harrison of Quantum Ceramics says these porcelain tiles have the appearance of natural stone.
"Quarry Stone tiles have the warm, aged look of stone along with the natural variations in colour and pattern," he says. "The tiles are also hard-wearing and easy to keep clean, which makes them well suited to busy family kitchens."
Harrison says Quarry Stone tiles are available in five colours, and look equally good in modern settings.
The ceramic wall tiles that feature on the splashback in this kitchen were also imported by Quantum Ceramics. The Cacao Matt tiles, which measure 300mm x 100mm, are a rich dark chocolate brown.
The floor and wall tiles are part of an extensive tile collection available through 100 stores nationwide, including the Lifestiles store in Palmerston North.
