While glamour shopping is a central part of Nuffield Street's appeal, the developer also wanted it to simply be a fashionable place to linger. Attendant to this, the precinct offers a variety of hospitality venues, including Mac's Brew Bar. An important part of the spacious bar's ambience, indoors and out, is a large feature fireplace.

Fires by Design custom-designed and supplied the Warmington fireplace, a much commented-on element of the bar's interior, says Fires by Design manager Ann Lereculey.

"The gas fireplace, with its almost sculptural wall of sawn logs rising above it, is appreciated both from in the bar and from the street," she says. "Effectively it forms an exterior wall of the venue and you can see straight through the flames into the bar's interior."

The bar also offers outdoor seating and the warming glow of the fire can be equally appreciated by its alfresco patrons.

Timing was tight for the creation and supply of the upscale fireplace. It was in place and flickering within eight weeks of being ordered.

"All the Warmington units are 100 percent New Zealand made and there is also a large standard range of fires to select from in styles ranging from traditional to modern," she says.
