Family affair
Starting with a site that offered expansive views but little privacy, Graeme Alexander Homes' strategic response resulted in a relaxed family retreat
Making the most of your site's situation is a primary consideration for an astute design-and-build company. Whether it's setting out a new home to maximise views and privacy or ensuring easy family flow through the living spaces, good house design optimises your family's lifestyle.
Design-and-build company Graeme Alexander Homes has more than 20 years' experience in turning site negatives into site positives. The large, airy family home featured here offers a good example.
The half-hectare, west-facing exposed block offered generous bay views in a good part of Mt Martha but presented an interesting problem. Privacy from neighbours was a concern as several substantial two-storey homes overlooked the site.
Graeme Alexander Homes used the block size and manipulation of ground levels to achieve privacy for the owners. By digging in the extended family living areas, the home has a largely single-storey presence and seems to float over the newly created ground levels.
Digging into the site also helped in providing privacy to the west-facing pool and outdoor living areas. A large native garden featuring natural rock, earthy tones and timber helped settle this home into its newly created natural setting.
