The success of any large project requires a high degree of cost planning if it is to stay on budget throughout the design and construction stages.

Neil Properties approached specialist quantity surveyor and cost consultancy White Associates to engage its cost planning expertise on 8 Nugent, Neil Properties' first project outside the Albany basin.

White Associates consultant Mark Rothery says the project has been an outstanding success, largely due to the close working relationship with the management teams from Neil Properties and Octa Associates.

"Our specialty is to give clients definitive costs, analysis of their options and advice on ways in which they can enhance their projects. Neil Properties wanted us to ensure that 8 Nugent stayed within budget from design concept to construction completion," he says.

"This involved developing a robust budget, tendering the construction works and negotiating all tender qualifications and cost management during the construction phase. We also provided up-to-date financial forecasting, and in the final stages, budgets, as tenants are procured and fit-outs begin."

Rothery says that by supplying clients with a clear strategy, comprehensive cost plans and project forecasts means they can more easily make fully informed decisions and eliminate uncertainty from their projects.
