Remembering the summers of a New Zealand childhood, many people yearn for the freedom and fun of long days spent in beach communities.

It is this traditional, relaxed neighbourhood feeling that Bluehaven Management have sought to recapture in the creation of Excelsa Village in East Papamoa. The development is designed to encourage residents to live a fulfilled and social life in a vibrant beach community.

The architecture of the homes offered reflects New Zealand's coastal heritage, with a sense of permanence that can be seen in the choice of materials, colours and layout. Streets are designed to promote walking over driving, and all amenities are close to residential zones. The design of the community has an overall consistency, aimed at creating a sense of visual harmony.

Bluehaven commissioned Yellowfox for the interior design work. Four interior schemes were produced by the company's design team to provide examples for homeowners with differing tastes and needs.

Living spaces are open plan. The kitchen, by designer Andrea Burney, features Bestwood Melamine Arctic White cabinets and Hettich hardware.

"The kitchen has a relaxed aesthetic, which is evident in the warm yellow tones of the Wilsonart Blond Echo laminate benchtops and splashback."

Designed by Claire Bruford, the bathrooms have a beach-inspired colour palette and feature a range of tiles from Tile Warehouse.

"The bathrooms are simple, functional spaces, with tiled floors and mosaic walls. Bedrooms have prominent walls of bold patterns, created using Vision Wallcoverings papers."

The texture supplied by the wallcoverings helps demarcate spaces within rooms. In this bedroom, a patterned wall takes the place of the bed head.
