Economy of movement
This award-winning kitchen shows there is no need to compromise functionality for style
Unbeknown to many, food preparation can be tiring. A poorly designed kitchen can dull the pleasure of even the most devoted epicure, as they trudge unnecessary distances between storage and work areas.
A properly planned kitchen can save time and shorten travelling distances, says Peter Hargreaves, from Image Cabinets. Hargreaves, and Leigh Beisel, received this year's Housing Industry Association (HIA)-Parbury award for Most Innovative Use of Space.
"Our design integrated maximum space into an aesthetically pleasing kitchen. Positive customer feedback, and now the HIA-Parbury award, reflects the success of our approach to kitchen layout.
"Accessible storage areas, benchspace and the grouping of like objects, are all factors that reduce the amount of to-and-fro, contributing to a more enjoyable cooking experience," he says.
The Image Cabinets' design moves away from curves popular in many of this year's designs to more a linear style.
Unconventional elements, such as the ladder formed by open shelves at the end of the island, are practical and also create visual interest. The Wilsonart Satin Brushed Bronze panel on the back of the island visually links with the appliances.
"The design subtly integrates with open living spaces through different natural colours and finishes. All the materials used in this design were supplied by Parbury. Colours include Hardform doors in Versailles Anigre timber colour, as well as Pearl Bisque and Brittany Blue Colorform doors."
Combined, the staff at Image Cabinets have more than 50 years experience in the kitchen industry, in Australia, Europe and North America. The company specialises in custom designs, using the latest software and machinery to manufacture highly detailed kitchens.
